Job description

Our busy optometry group is seeking a part-time Medical Insurance/Authorization Specialist. We desire an individual who is hard-working, works well under pressure, excels at multi-tasking and customer service and has extreme attention to detail. This position is responsible for obtaining and verifying patient insurance information and securing authorization for service. Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS and ICD-9/10 codes a plus.

Knowledge of Optometry insurance and authorizations, experience in using Compulink or other electronic health records software a plus.

This job requires a highly reliable person who is capable of efficient, independent work. Based out of our Corporate office in Tampa, FL, this part-time, non-exempt, hourly position.  Requires availability on weekends.

Responsibilities including, but not limited to:

Verify 200+ appointments per day

Identify incomplete account information

Outreach to customers/payors to validate incomplete information

Contact patient to validate incomplete information

Obtain authorization for service, prior to patient visits to ensure payment from insurance

Maintain operations by following policies and procedures

Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing job related tasks as needed

Ability to maintain department metrics (daily, weekly & monthly)

Review and interpret patient benefits, and communicate copays and need for authorization for service both corporately and at the store level

Enter alphabetic, numeric or symbolic data such as policy ID and correct subscriber information accurate and timely

Other duties as assigned by Management.

This role works with PHI on a regular basis both in paper and electronic form and have access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) in order to perform the job employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and procedure Compliance training and security training prior to accessing our EMR software.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years medical insurance verification and authorization experience required, Optometry or Ophthalmology field a plus.
  • Must be Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience with Compulink or other electronic health records software a plus.
  • Eligible to work in US.
  • Proficiency with English language. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
