Fall 2011 OFFICERS

Kathy Howe – President

Kathy Howe is currently enrolled in the Master of Accounting program at USF with a focus on taxation. Before attending the University of South Florida, Kathy worked as a business consultant specializing in implementing enterprise resource planning systems (ERP) for wholesale distributors. Kathy recently accepted an internship position with TECO Energy and will be working in their internal audit department.

Amanda Worth – Vice President

Amanda was born and raised in the Cocoa Beach, FL area. Beginning in Spring of 2012, she will begin her internship with Grant Thornton and will thereafter complete her undergraduate in Accounting, followed by her Masters of Accountancy degree while sitting for the CPA Exam. She currently works as a Private Tutor and Interview Coach academically and professionally preparing students. When Amanda is not dedicating her time to academics or Beta Alpha Psi, you can find her creating artwork, at the beach, playing recreational sports, cooking international cuisines, or traveling.

Marissa Fassino – IS Director

Marissa was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Washington, D.C, Flagstaff, Arizona, and Melbourne Beach, Florida. She will be graduating with her undergraduate in accounting in December 2011. Following graduation she will continue on with her audit internship at Accell Audit & Compliance and begin the Master’s of Accountancy program in Fall 2012. Between studying, Beta Alpha Psi, and working she likes to watch movies and spend too much money shopping at Target.

Christina Mueller – Chapter Secretary

Christina Mueller was born and raised in Palm Harbor, Florida. She graduated as a double major in accounting and management in May 2011. Christina is currently enrolled in the Masters of Accountancy program with a focus on taxation and plans to begin her CPA exam during this time. She hopes to one day begin her PhD and become a professor. In her free time, Christina enjoys playing video games, cooking, and making costumes.

Cristen Grund – Treasurer

Cristen was born in Ohio, but grew up in Orlando before moving to Tampa in 2007. Prior to coming to USF, Cristen worked as an Accounting Manager in several industries. She will be graduating with her B.S. in Accountancy in December 2011, followed by an Audit internship with Grant Thornton, then getting married in April of 2012. Cristen plans to enter the MAcc program at USF, following her internship and wedding, under her married name-to-be, Cristen Carlson. When Cristen isn’t hitting the accounting books she enjoys cooking and cheering on her favorite teams, the Cleveland Browns and Orlando Magic!

Michael Territo – Chapter Reporter

Michael is currently completing his undergraduate degree, which will be finished in December 2011. Upon completion, he will move onto an audit internship this January with Grant Thornton in Tampa. He then plans to enroll in USF’s Master’s of Accountancy program in Fall 2012, during which he plans to earn his CPA license. Michael started his own business with his brother during his freshman summer and has volunteered with the AARP’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for the past two tax seasons in his hometown of Brooksville, FL. When Michael isn’t studying he likes to play tennis, basketball, play video games, and fish with his girlfriend.

Christopher Rosales – President

Christopher was born in Miami, but he was raised in the Tampa Bay area. He graduated from Hillsborough High School 3rd in his class and was a Tampa Tribune Scholar for graduating class 2006. He currently works at Comfort Suites and is going into his 3rd year. Christopher completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of South Florida in Fall of 2010. He is currently pursuing his graduate degree in Accounting and plans to start the CPA examination while completing school. He is a highly involved member of Beta Alpha Psi and enjoys community service events. In any free time, he enjoys roller skating, finding the next funniest video on YouTube, and singing loudly in the car.

In her spare time Kathy enjoys spending time with her husband and attending Tampa Bay sporting events.

Linda Fernandez – IS Director

After graduating with a finance degree, Linda worked in the insurance industry as a commercial accounts underwriter. She always enjoyed the financial aspect of analyzing businesses and from a combination of work experience and her background in finance knew she was interested in accounting. She joined Beta Alpha Psi in the spring of 2010 and hopes to graduate from the MAcc program in the fall of 2011.

Elizabeth Shepard – Chapter Secretary

Elizabeth was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area. She will graduate with her undergraduate in Accounting from the University of South Florida in May 2011. She plans on pursuing her graduate degree after graduation and will sit for her CPA during graduate school. Elizabeth currently works at Santo’s Italian Grill, a family owned restaurant in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Elizabeth has also been awarded a Student’s Excellence grant for the second semester and assists an accounting professor throughout the semester. In her spare time, she enjoys painting and shopping with her sister.

Kari Ferguson – Treasurer

Kari has lived in Tampa, Florida her entire life. She will be graduating with a Bachelors in Accountancy in May 2011. Following graduation she will begin her internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers. She plans on attending graduate school in Fall 2011. During that time she will hopefully finish up her CPA exam. She currently works at PetSmart and loves animals. When she is not studying or working, she enjoys sleeping and hanging out with her friends.

Carson Hardy – Chapter Reporter

After growing up in Bradenton, Florida, Carson is attending USF for his undergraduate degree. Nearing the completion of that degree, Carson will graduate in May and work as an Audit Intern with Grant Thornton here in Tampa. From there he will study for his Master’s of Accountancy degree, and earn his CPA license prior to full-time work. Carson is the Vice President and Captain of the Roller Hockey Club at USF, competing in a national league. In his free time he likes to exercise, watch sports, watch movies, and read books. One of his most fond memories was backpacking through Europe this summer, and studying abroad with the USF School of Accountancy.

FALL 2010 OFFICERS

Rob Goodwin – President

Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Rob has been in the Tampa Bay area for the past ten years. During this time he has held many different positions including managing, tutoring prep and college level mathematics, accounting, and writing; and acting as a partner in a commercial cleaning business. Currently, he is a teaching assistant for Principles of Financial Accounting and runs his own cleaning company. Since returning to school, he has served in a number of leadership positions, including treasurer and president of the HCC Student Government Association and currently serves as the president of Beta Alpha Psi.

Amanda Porupski – Vice President

Amanda Porupski was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. She attended Oklahoma State University before transferring to USF. Amanda is currently working towards her Master of Accountancy and preparing for the CPA exam. Amanda and her husband own their own company, Florida Hardwood Flooring. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys camping, riding bikes, scrapbooking, and playing basketball. Amanda won first place in the Grant Thornton Speech Contest in Fall 2009 for her speech “The Recruiting Process of an Accountant.” Amanda just returned from studying abroad with USF School of Accountancy. Amanda visited 5 countries while in Europe. She studied the impact of the IFRS convergence on AIS. Amanda is the Vice President of Beta Alpha Psi.

Ana Chirino – IS Director

Ana is a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa with a business degree in Economics and is currently a returning student pursuing a degree in Accounting. She is very active in the Tampa Bay community and is the Board President of Boyette Oaks Homeowner’s Association. She served on the Pasco Alliance of Community Associations board, BAP Gold Challenge committee and participated in community events such as “Paint Your Heart Out” with Deloitte. Ana also brings her technology, marketing and managerial skills to the Beta Alpha Psi officer team.

James Bote – Chapter Secretary

James was born and raised in Valrico, Florida and will graduate with his undergraduate in Accounting from the University of South Florida in December 2010. He plans on pursuing his graduate degree after graduation and will sit for his CPA during graduate school. James currently works at Bill’s Prescription Center, which is a family owned pharmacy in Brandon, Florida. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and watching every sport possible on TV. All he wants for Christmas is for the Rays to win the World Series.

James Hansen – Treasurer

Having grown up in a military family, James lived a life of constant change by attending 11 different schools and living abroad in Germany, Japan, and Argentina. He is a graduate student getting his Master of Accountancy at USF and works as a Teaching Assistant for Principles of Managerial Accounting. James will begin taking the CPA exam this semester and can’t wait to start full-time at Ernst & Young next summer. He is very competitive and especially loves playing pick-up basketball at the gym, flag football, and soccer.

Luke Richardson – Chapter Reporter

Born in Miami and raised only minutes from USF, Luke began studying at the College of Business in the Fall of 2007. He is now a senior and is well on his way to completing his undergraduate education in Accounting. After an enormously rewarding first semester in Beta Alpha Psi, Luke will be working as an Audit Intern at Deloitte in the Spring of 2011 and plans to graduate the following Fall. He intends to pursue his Master of Accountancy degree and CPA designation upon graduation. Apart from studying and sleeping when possible, Luke loves playing sports, working out, and essentially everything else that takes place outside.
